::Biography::
Scalping Screen started off
in late 2001 as a four-piece band with the idea of
getting together and making something loud. With Jani's
no-holds-barred and cruel guitar riffs, Heikki's insane
teeth-grinding beat-downs, Pekka's sub-sonic bass
attacks and Mika's gut-wrenching vocal delivery this
was quickly accomplished.
The band's musical influences came from heavy metal
and hardcore punk. The band also has soaked up influences
that aren't entirely musical, but make up an important
part of what it means to be Scalping Screen.
The reason the band came into being was due to the
vacuum of any kind of music other than brit-pop and
garbage. Additionally the driving force behind the
music is the love of playing and spend-ing time together,
which makes up the core of Scalping Screen. The existing
knowledge of the Finnish hardcore scene and willingness
to contribute something to the cause was enough to
serve as putting out something more brutal.
After a couple of months of training and song writing,
band went to the Mediaworks studio in March 2002.
The band recorded 13 tracks during their studio session.
The intention was to make a DIY record?anyway, the
first release was a demo/promo. The demo was noticed
by some un-derground zines and was well received by
record labels in general. The summer of 2002 gained
the band attention from the Finnish hardcore scene
and the band was invited to play gigs in southern
Finland.
In February 2003 the band was signed to Gods Child
Records Ltd. from Hong Kong, which resulted in the
release of "13 Revolting Strains", which was the second
release from the label. The CD was reviewed by several
Finnish magazines, which received a great deal of
positive feed-back. In fall of 2003 band has recorded
two new songs for couple of compilations.
You can hear pure metallic rage the songs, but there
is also an unbridled fury that comes from hardcore.
If you are into old school, new school or whatever
school and like metal, you'll like Scalping Screen.
Mika brings his own perspective to the songs by writing
lyrics that are close to his own experience, but also
a wider perspective with his point of view on racism,
violence and hypocrites. During 2003 to 2004 band
did handful of gigs around Finland and represent in
Russia for couple of gigs too.
In March 2004 the band returned to the MediaWorks
studio for a week of recording for their second album.
The record was produced by Hermanni K. The band has
become accustomed to getting good results with Hermanni
(who has also mixed several gigs). The band generally
agrees that Hermanni has a good feel for the kind
of music Scalping Screen is into.
The new album, titled "Blood Out...", keeps to the
in-your-face beatdown attitude as "13 Revolting
Strains", where Jani tears up shit with his brutal
riffs to Heikki's drums, which are consequently beat
to a pulp, Mika's aggressive vocal delivery teams
up with Pekka's violent bass-work to combine in another
33 minutes of thorough grinding thrashy metal and
hardcore. According to band the on tracks on "Blood
Out..." are heavier and more thought-out?. Band
continues how the new tracks sound, this new album
is fully aggressive and it delivers all the way to
the last minutes till it hits you in the face with
"Payback".
In the Fall of 2004 Scalping Screen's line-up changed
with the addition of another guitarist, Risto. The
band has already been working on breaking the new
guitarist in and the results are promising. As for
what's to come, the band won't comment any more than
it'll be as heavy as it motherfucking gets. "Blood
Out..." will be released in early 2005 through
God's Child Music.
